Science U3 Test

Sci Chapter 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 Test On Earth

QuestionAnswer
What are the 4 layers of the Earth? Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core
Which 2 layers are solid? Mantle, Inner Core
What are the 2 types of evidence do geologist use? Direct and Indirect
What types of rocks are found on the crust? Basalt is in the ocean and granite is on continents
Compare and Contrast the Lithosphere and Asthenosphere Lithosphere is part of the crust, upper part of mantle and hard. Asthenosphere is hot, below lithosphere and is bendy.
What are the 3 types of heat transfer? Give an example. Radiation-Sun, Radiators Convection-Heat source to pot Conduction-Hand to pot
What causes Convection Currents? (CC) A change in temp, density, force of gravity and heat source
How does density affects a convection cell? It makes it sink and float
What causes CC in the mantle? Scientist think that the liquid in the outer core causes CC
What is the Heat source that drive CC in the mantle? The Inner core and Mantle
What is the theory of Plate Tectonics? The theory of plate tectonics states that pieces of the earths lithosphere are in slow constant motion driven by Convection Currents in the mantle.
What are the 3 types of Plate Boundary's? Divergent, Convergent, and Transform Boundary
Who was Alfred Wegener? He was a scientist
What did Wegener hypothesized? That the continents were once joined together and over time drifted away
What evidence supported Wegner's theory? Land Features, Fossils and Climate.
Why was Wegener rejected Because he could not explain how it happened
Define Continental Drift Drifting Continents
Define Pangaea All land
Define Fossil The preserved remains or traces of a once living thing

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
