Health Assessment Cardio Vascular System

Heart sounds are result of event: hemodynamics, conduction, movement of heart
systolic contration or emptying phase
diastolic relaxation or resting/filling phase
cardiac output amount of blood ejected per minutestroke volume x heart rate
S1 beginning of systole, closure of Mitral and Tricuspid valves, apex, Lt lateral sternal border
S2 ending of systole, closure of pulmonic and aortic valves, base, 2nd Rt intercostal space
S3 extra heart sound that occurs soon after the normal two "lub-dub" heart sounds (S1 and S2). Also called protodiastolic gallop, ventricular gallop.
S4 extra heart sound that occurs immediately before the normal two "lub-dub" heart sounds (S1 and S2). S4 has also been termed an atrial gallop or a presystolic gallop
