How Matter Changes

Chemical Change A change in matter that produces new kinds of matter with different properties
Chemical Reaction Another term for a chemical change
Dissolve To mix completely with another substance to form a solution
Energy The ability to cause change
Heat The flow of thermal energy from a warmer area to a cooler area
Mixture Matter made up of two or more substances or materials that are physically combined
Physical Change A change in size, shape, or state of matter that does not create a new kind of matter
Product A substance formed in a chemical reaction
Reactant A substance that enters a chemical reaction
Solution A mixture in which the particles of one kind of matter are mixed evenly with the particles of other kinds of matter
temperature A measure of how hot or cold matter is
Thermal Energy The total kinetic energy of tiny moving particles of matter
