Musical Terms

Terms and Definitions of semester terms

TermDefinition
Form The design, structure, or pattern of a music composition.
Motive Recognizable part of a theme.
Time Signature A sign for the metrical division of measures in music.
Tempo The speed at which something is played.
Musical Staff The set of lines used for the notation of different pitches.
Pitch The frequency of vibration for a given note.
Octave An interval of an eighth.
Dynamics The levels of sound, loud or soft, in a given piece.
Musical Alphabet The pitches A-G used to create music.
Treble Clef A sign that specifies the note to be indicated by one of the lines, from which other notes may be gauged.
