labrum: in athropods, a mouthpart that functions as an upper lip

typanum: a sound-sensig membrane on the abdomen of an insect
ovipositor: in many female insects, a structure that is at the end of the abdomen and that is used to lay eggs
metamorphosis: a phase in the life cycle of many animals during which a rapid change from the immature organism to the adult takes place; an example is the change from larva to adult in insects
incomplete metamorphosis: an animal life cycle in which the individual undergoes gradual development through several nymph stage after the egg stage ad before the adult
nymph: an immature stage of some insects that is similar in function and structure to the adult
complete metamorphosis: an animal life cycle in which the individual undergoes two major stages of development between the egg stage and the adult stage
pupa: the immobile, nonfeeding stage between the larva and the adult of insects that have complete metamorphosis; as a pupa, the orgaism is usually enclosed in a cocoon or chrysaalis and undergoes important antomical changes
pheromone: a chemical released by an animal that affects the behavior development of other members of the same species through the sense of smell or taste
social insect: an insect that lives in a large community , such as an ant or a bee
innate behavior: an inherited behavior that does not depend on the enivronment or experience
worker bee: a bee that does not reproduce but that works for the community by collecing food and maintaining the hive
queen bee: the mature, fertie female that lays eggs in a colony of bees
drone: a male bee that develops from an unfertilized egg and functions only to fertilize eggs from the queen
royal jelly: a high-protein substance secreted by worker bees and fed to a queen bee andd female larvae that develops into queen bees
