| gene | a unit of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring |
| dominant | a stronger allele |
| recessive | a form that seems to disappear/weaker allele |
| homozygous | 2 of the same alleles |
| heterozygous | 2 different alleles |
| phenotype | a trait you see |
| genotype | actual gene |
| hybrid | an organism that gets it info from 2 different places |
| Gregor Mendel | the "Father" of genetics |
| punnett square | a tool to predict result in Mendelian genetics |
| polygenic inheritance | -many genes determine a trait -gives us a variation in traits |
| incomplete dominace | 2 dominant alleles blend to make a intermediate phenotype |
| sex-linked gene | only gene found on sex chromosomes XX-FEMALE XY-MALE |
| recessive genetic disorder | a disorder that both parents would have to carry for the offspring to get the disorder |
| pedigree | a family tree |
| multiple alleles | more than 2 alleles that give more possible combonations |
