Unit : 5 Astronomy of the Solar System

| Blue Shift | the displacement of the spectrum to shorter wavelengths in the light coming from distant celestial objects moving toward the observer. |
| Doppler Effect | an increase (or decrease) in the frequency of sound, light, or other waves as the source and observer move toward (or away from) each other. |
| Eccentricity | deviation of a curve or orbit from circularity. |
| Ellipse | a regular oval shape, traced by a point moving in a plane so that the sum of its distances from two other points |
| Geocentric | having or representing the earth as the center, as in former astronomical systems. |
| Heliocentric | having or representing the sun as the center, as in the accepted astronomical model of the solar system. |
| Jovian | a hypothetical or fictional inhabitant of the planet Jupiter |
| Red Shift | the displacement of spectral lines toward longer wavelengths (the red end of the spectrum) in radiation from distant galaxies and celestial objects. |
| Solar System | the collection of eight planets and their moons in orbit around the sun, together with smaller bodies in the form of asteroids, meteoroids, and comets. |
| Terrestrial | an inhabitant of the earth. |
