| bedding plane | the fractures between the layers of sedimentary rock |
| permeable | enables water to pass through it |
| limestone pavement | a flat area of limestone that has been exposed to the surface over a long period of time |
| grikes | the widened and deepened joints in between limestone blocks |
| clints | the limestone blocks |
| dry valley | was carved out by the force of running water but does not have a river flowing through it |
| swallow hole | an opening in the bed of a river through which the river disappears from the surface to flow underground |
| cave | a naturally formed underground passage that is large enough to emter |
| caverns |
