3 Assumptions of science ----
1st Assumption All events can be traced to natural causes. Not due to supernatural causes
2nd Assumption The natural law that govern events now apply everywhere and for all time (gravity)
3rd Assumption People perceive actual events in similar ways-gives us reliable info about the natural world (objects in a room)
Do all organisms look the same? NO
How are phylogeny developed? With morphology data
Who was Darwin? A man who traveled around the world collecting specimens, made observations of all kinds of organisms, worked on collections, and wrote books
Who was Wallace? Amateur naturalist who went to Amazon to collect specimens to sell, but was lost at sea. Wrote book about his experience
In 1858, what happened to Wallace? He had a fever, got a idea about natural selection and sent it to Darwin
What did James Watson and Frances Crick? Built a model of the DNA structure
What did Watson and Crick already know about DNA? The chemical compounds, shapes and sizes of components, amount of components, and distance of some compounds
How can we use antibiotics more sensibly Short term? Use them less frequently / not for viral infection / finish the prescription
Long term Develop new antibiotics and vaccines
