| Normal Fault | A fault in which the hanging wall has slipped downward |
| Reverse Fault | A fault in which the upper side has been pushed upward |
| Syncline | a trough or fold of stratified rock in which the strata slope upward from the axis. |
| Plateau | An elevated comparatively level expanse of land. Plateaus make up 45% of the earths land surface |
| Fault Block Mountains | Large areas of broken bedrock broken up by faults |
| Fault | A flat surface along which there is a slip during an earthquake, resulting in uneven surface |

| Compression | A stress that squeezes rock until it folds or breaks |
| Strike Slip Fault | A fault in which rock strata are displaced mainly in horizontal direction parallel to the line of the fault |
| Stress | A force that acts on rock to change its shape or volume |
| earthquake | A sudden violent shaking of the ground |
| Tension | stress that pulls on the crust stretching rocks so that it becomes thinner in the middle |
| Deformation | an aeration in shape or structure of a previous normally formed part |
| Anticline | a rock structure that has a ridge shaped fold in stratified rock in which the slope is downward from the crest |
| Hanging wall | the block of rock lying above an inclined geological fault line |
