TermDefinition
Atom Building Block of matter
Element Most pure type of matter, can't be broken down
Nucleus The brain of an atom
Electron Shell The barrier between a nucleus and electrons
Fire Extinquisher Used to put out a fire in a lab
Neutron a neutral charge that makes isotopes in an atom
Electron A negative charge that makes ions in an atom
Valence Electrons The number of electrons on the outermost shell.
Volume The amount of space an object takes up
Graduated Cylinder Measures how much liquid is in it and can be used to find volume
Density How compact something is
Speed The distance traveled in an amount of time
Velocity Objects speed and direction at a given instant
Acceleration Change in velocity over time
Force A push or a pull
Balanced force Force that doesn't make something move; has a net force of 0
Unbalanced force Force that makes something move; doesn't have a net force of 0
Newton Measure of force on an object
Mass The amount of matter an object conatains
Newtons 1st Law Objects in motion will stay in motion and objects at rest will stay at rest until acted on by an outside force.
