Experimental Design

TermDefinition
control In an experiement it is the subject with out an independent variable used to compare the test subjects against it.
control group a group that is not exposed to the independent variable used to compare the experimental groups.
dependent variable the subject that is being tested and is expected to react when the independent variable is added
experiment scientific steps used to methodically test a hypothesis
experimental group a group of subjects exposed to an independent variable to test a hypothesis in a scientific experiment
hypothesis an educated guess about a problem
independent variable the catalyst in a scientific test that is applied to the dependent variable to test a hypothesis
procedure specific steps taken in a certain order to complete a test
reliability having the same experimental results repeatedly in a test
sample size the number of subjects in a group used in an experiment.
scientific method A systematic set of steps to create and do an experiment
theory An experiment that has been repeated so many times with the same results & is excepted by large numbers of scientists
validity something correctly concluded from the evidence brought forward
