Cell The smallest unit that could perform all life proccesses
Stimulus Anything that causes a reaction or change in an organism or part of an organism
Homeostasis The maintenance of a constant internal state in a changing enviorment
Sexual Reproduction Reproduction in which the sex cells from two parents unite to produce offsprings. This offspring has shared traits from both parents
Asexual Reproduction Reproduction that doesn't involve the union sex cells in which one parent produces offsprings that are genetically identical to the parent
Heredity The passing of genetic traits from parents to offspring
Metabolism The sum of all chemical processes that occur in an organism
D.N.A. Deoxyribonucleic acid, a molecule that is present in all living cells and that contains the information that determines the traits that a living thing inherits and needs to live
What are the Six Characteristics of Living Things? Cells, Reproduce, Respond to changes, D.N.A., Energy, and Grow/Develop. Mnemonic Device: Carly Runs Responsibly During Every Game
What are the four necessities (needs) of Life? Food, Living Space, Air, and Water. Acronym: FLAW
Producer An organism that can make its own food by using energy from its surroundings Example: A Mushroom
Consumer An organism that eats other organisms or organic matter. Example: A Frog
Decomposer An organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of dead organisms or animal wastes and consuming or absorbing the nutrients Example: A Worm
Whats the difference between Sexual Reproduction and Asexual Reproduction? Sexual Reproduction is when TWO parents reproduce. Also the offspring gets shared traits from both the parents. Asexual Reproduction is when ONE parent reproduces. Also the offspring is the exact replica of the parent.
What is the Difference between Growth and Development? Growth is when you get taller and older. Development is when you mature, your body changes, and you go through different stages in your life. An Example is a frog gets bigger (growth) and a frog changes stages. (development)
What's an example of a stimulus? When it snows, it makes you cold,which makes you shiver.
What's an example of a homeostasis? When you shiver or sweat your body is trying to get you back to normal.
What's an example of a response? Your pupils get smaller and bigger according to the light.
