Chemical Weathering

When a rock breaks down through chemical change

TermDefinition
Acid precipitation Any type of precipitation that contains a high concentration amount of acids within itself.
Acids in groundwater When acids react with the rock on the ground with it and a chemical reaction occurs that dissolves the rock forming karst feature such as caverns.
Acids in living things Lichens can grow on the sides of rocks and produce acid on the rock which then breaks the rock down
Oxidation A chemical reaction in which an element such as iron combines with oxygen to form an oxide aka rust.
Water When water dissolves something when it comes in contact with it.
