Science digestion

definition/vocabulary

digestion the process by which foods are changed into forms the body can use.
epiglottis flap of tissue that prevents food from entering the windpipe.
esophagus tube that connects the mouth and stomach.
peristalsis wavelike movement that moves food through the digestive tract.
chemical digestion the process by which large food molecules are broken down into smaller food molecules.
mechanical digestion process by which large pieces of food are cut and crushed into smaller pieces.
saliva liquid in the mouth that helps in digestion
enzyme and enzyme is a chemical that controls chemicalreaction in the body.
