Cell Vocabulary terms for 7th grade

Cell wall Protects/supports plant cell (Wall or privacy fence)
Cell membrane Allows certain materials to move in/out of cell (screen)
Cytoplasm Gelatin-like mixture that flows inside cell membrane (air)
Vacuole Stores water, substances; one large one in plants smaller ones in animals (storage bag)
Nucleus Control all cell activities contains heredity/genetic material, DNA ( city government offices; brain)
Nucleolus Produces ribosomes (brain of brain - mayor)
Ribosome Makes protein (factory)
Endoplasmic Reticulum Folded membrane moves materials around in cells (roads)
Golgi bodies Package and move substances inside and out of the cell (packaging/shipping center)
Lysosome Breaks down/digests substances inside cell (fuel refinery;waste processing plant, clean up crew - Lysol
Mitochondrion Releases energy from food (power plant - battery)
Chloroplasts Captures or taps light energy to make food for plants; contains chlorophyll (solar panel)
