Vocabulary Words

Herbivore This is a consumer that eats only plants.
Chlorophyll The green substance found in plants that traps energy from the sun and gives plants their green color.
Ecosystem All the living and nonliving things in an environment and how they interact.
Prey Animals that are predators eat this __________.
Omnivores Organisms that eat both plants and animals.
Habitat A place where an animal or plant lives.
Food Chain The flow of energy through a community from producer to consumer to decomposers.
Producer A living thing that uses sunlight to make sugar.
Predator An animal that hunts and kills other animals.
Carnivores Organisms that eat only animals.
Decomposers These put materials from dead plants and animals back into the soil.
Photosynthesis A process by which plants change light energy form the sun and use it to make sugar.
