| Albic Horizon | E horizon light colored |
| Argillic Horizon | Bt at least 7.5 or 15 cm thick clay films greater amount of clay than above or PM PM < 15% clay -- 3% increase PM 15 - 40% clay -- 1.2 ratio of argillic horizon to above or PM PM > 40% clay -- 8% increase |
| Natric Horizon | Btn prismatic, columnar in structure > 15% exchangeable sodium |
| Spodic Horizon | Bh, Bs, Bhs buildup of Fe, Al, OM; cracked coatings on grains where all the sesquioxides have been moved down into; leached out from E horizon usually beneath an albic or Ej horizon |
| Cambic Horizon | Bw redder than the underlying horizon soil has no geologic structure |
| Oxic Horizon | Bo lateritic soil, found in tropical areas > 30 cm thick > 15% clay < 16meq/100g of CEC |
| Calcic Horizon | Bk > 15 cm > 15% CaCO3 compared to PM |
| Gypsic Horizon | By > 15 cm > 5% increase in gypsum from PM |
| Salic Horizon | Bz > 15 cm thick > 2 % of salts more soluble than gypsum |
| Duripan | Bqm silica cemented horizon |
| Fragipan | Bx high BD loamy material, slakes in water, usually motled |
