Beat, Rhythm, Melody
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Rhythm | A pattern of long and short notes which fit around the beat. A number of different note values are used to show how long each musical sound should last. |
Melody | Part of the song you might sing or play. It is made up of notes of different pitches. |
Pitch | How high or low a note sounds |
Beat | Pulse that is felt in music. It may be fast or slow but it is always regular. |
Time Signature | Indicates the number of beats in a bar. |
Semibreve | 4 Beats |
Minim | 2 Beats |
Crotchet | 1 Beat |
Dotted Minim | 3 Beats |
Quaver | Half a Beat |
Dotted Crotchet | One and Half Beats |
Time Signature | Indicates the number of beats in a bar |
Common Time | [C] Four beats in a bar- 4/4 time. |
Bar Lines | Show where the bars start and finish |
Music Phrase | A group of bars that can be sung in one breath. It uasually ends with a long note or rest. |
