Endocrine System

TermDefinition
endocrine glands produce and release their chemical products directly into the blood stream
hormones turn on, turn off, speed up, or slow down the activities of different organs and tissues
target cells cells that recognize the hormone's chemical structure
hypothalamus sends nerve messages, produces hormones, and helps to maintain homeostasis
pituitary gland communicates with the hypothalamus to control many body activities
thyroid gland controls the release of energy from food molecules during respiration
adrenal glands trigger the body to respond to emergencies
ovaries control changes in a teenage girl's body
testes control changes in a teenage boy's body
pancreas produces insulin and glucagon
