QuestionAnswer
force push or a pull
friction the force that one surface exerts on another when they rub.
gravity the force that pulls objects towards each other
mass the amount of matter in an object
weight the force of gravity on an object at the surface of a planet
fluid friction occurs when a solid object moves through a fluid.
static friction the friction that acts on objects that are nit moving
rolling friction when an object rolls across a surface
sliding friction occurs when two solid surfaces slide over each other.
newton a unit that measures the strength of a force in SI
net force the combination of all forces acting on an object.
unbalanced force can cause a object to start moving stop moving or change direction. a net force acting on an object.
balanced force equal forces acting on one object in opposite directions.
free fall the motion of a falling object when the only force acting on it is gravity.
air resistance objects falling through air experience a type of fluid friction.
terminal velocity the greatest velocity a falling object can achieve
what is a net force? when do they act In the same or opposing direction they act in the same direction when you can add the strengths of the individual force They act in the opposite direction they also combine by subtracting.
when is motion balanced or unbalanced? motion is balanced when equal forces are acting on an object. unbalanced when the force causes an object to change its motion
what factors effect friction the factors are the surface involved and how hard the surfaces push together.
how does mass and distance affect gravitational attractions the greater the mass the less distance the greater the gravitational attraction when distance increases the gravitational attraction decreases and the same with mass
why do objects accelerate as they fall to earth they accelerate because all objects change direction and speed.
explain the parachute experiment when people ran with the parachute on they went slower because of air resentence

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
