second set of vocabulary for machine shop students
| Term | Definition |

| cam-lock | type of fastener used to secure a chuck |
| cam-lock spindle nose | where the workholding device is held in place with locks around its perimeter |
| cente | device located in the tail-stock of a lathe that supports the end of a cylindrical work piece |
| center-drilled | making a tapered hole in the end of a part so that it can be supported by a center |
| centerline | imaginary line the runs through the center of the spindle the length of the lathe |
| chuck | work-holding device with three to six jaws |
| chuck key | device used to loosen the bolts or cam-locks |
| CNC lathe | lathe controlled by a computer running programs that contain all the necessary instructions for the machine parts |
| collet | A slitted device that holds a work piece in place as it rotates |
| concentric | a common center or sharing the same axis with another object |
