The Characteristics of Seed Plants

| pollen | tiny structures that contain cells that will later become sperm cells |
| seed | a structure that contains a young plant inside a protective covering |
| embryo | a young plant that develops from the zygote |
| cotyledons | seed leaves |
| germination | when the embryo pushes out of the seed |
| root cap | a structure that protects the root from injury |
| cambium | a layer of cells that divides into new phloem and xylem |
| stomata | small openings in the surface layers of the leaf |
| transpiration | the process where water evaporates from the leaves |
