Chapter 5 Vocabulary

motion objects change in position relative to a reference point.
speed the distance divided by time during which the motion occurred.
velocity the speed of an object in a certain direction.
acceleration the rate at which velocity changes overtime.
force push or pull on an object to change its motion.
newton the SI unit of force
net force combination of all forces acting on an object.
friction force that opposes motion between 2 surfaces that are in contact
gravity a force of attraction between objects that is due to there masses
weight measure of gravitational force exerted on an object
mass measure of the amount of matter in an object.
