adaptation adjustment to environmental conditions
carrion dead and decaying flesh
camouflage the hiding or disguising of something by covering it up or changing the way it looks
nocturnal active at night
diurnal of or during the day
migration seasonal movement of animals from one region to another
food chain a hierarchical series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food.
food web a system of interlocking and interdependent food chains
producer a living thing that makes its food from simple inorganic substances and many of which are food sources for other organisms
consumer something that eats
decomposer an organism, esp. a soil bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate, that decomposes organic material
scavenger an animal that feeds on carrion, dead plant material, or refuse
prey an animal that is hunted and killed by another for food
omnivore an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin
herbivore an animal that feeds on plants
carnivore an animal that feeds on flesh
endangered a species that is seriously at risk of extinction.
threatened state one's intention to take hostile action against someone in retribution for something done or not done
extinct a species, family, or other larger group having no living members
conservation the action of conserving something, in particular
community a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals
