| Hypothesis | prediction or statement that can be tested & may be formed by prior knowledge, any previous observations, & new information |
| Experimental Research Design | used to answer scientific questions by testing a hypothesis through the use os a series of carefully controlled steps |
| Descriptive research | answers scientific questions through observation |
| Independent variable | variable that can be changed during an experiment |
| Dependent variable | factor that is being measured during an experiment |
| Constant | variable that stays the same during an experiment |
| Control | sample that is treated like other experimental groups except that the independent variable is not applied to it |
| Evaporation | process that takes place when a liquid changes to a gas |
| Condensation | process that takes place when a gas changes to a liquid |
| Water Cycle | model describing how water moves from Earth's surface to the atmosphere and back to the surface again through evaporation, condensation, & precipitation |
| Nitrogen Cycle | model describing how nitrogen moves from the atmosphere to the soil, to living organisms, & then back to the atmosphere |
