Geographical Terms to Know

| Archipelago | a group of islands |
| atoll | a ring shaped coral island enclosing or partly enclosing a lagoon |
| Basin | a low area almost entirely surrounded by higher land |
| bay | a part of the sea extending into the land, having a wide opening |
| bluff | land with steep sides and a broad flat front |
| canal | a waterway caused by people |
| canyon | a deep valley with steep sides, usually with a stream or river running through it |
| cape | a piece of land extending into the water (smaller than a pennisula) |
| channel | a body of water joining two larger bodies of water |
| cliff | high, steep face of rock, especially on the coast |
| commodity | anything that is bought and sold |
| current | a flow of water |
| delta | land that is formed by mud and sand deposited at the mouth of a river |
| fiord | a long narrow, often deep inlet of the sea lying between steep cliffs |
| geyser | a fountain of steaming water above the ground |
| glacier | a large mass of moving ice on land |
| gulf | a large part of an ocean or sea that extends into the land |
| hill | a raised part of land with rounded sides smaller than a mountain |
