Weather, Erosion, and Soil
| Term | Definition |

| Weathering | any process that breaks down and changes rocks |
| Chemical Weathering | process by which rock are changed in their composition due to chemical reactions |
| Frost Wedging | type of mechanical weathering that occurs when water freezes and thaws in the cracks of rocks, resulting in rocks splitting. |
| Mechanical Weathering | process that breaks down rocks without changing their composition |
| Acid Precipitation | rain with a pH under 5 that can cause chemical weathering |
| Erosion | removal and trasport of weathered material to another location |
| Deposition | when eroded materials and dropped in another location |
| Soil | loose covering of weathered rock and decayed organic material covering the underlying bedrock |
| Residual Soil | soil that comes from parent material that is similar to the area's bedrock |
| Transported Soil | soil that has been moved away from its parent material |
| Soil Profile | vertical sequence of soil layers |
| Soil Horizon | specific layer within the soil profile |
