TermDefinition
cell wall a rigid structure that encloses, supports, and protects the cell.
centriole A small, cylindrical cell organelle, seen near the nucleus in the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells, that only divide during mitosis.
chloroplast A green chlorophyll-containing, plant-cell organelle that converts sunlight, cabon dioxide and water into sugar.
cytoplasm A constantly moveing, gel-like mixture inside a cell membrane that contains heredity.
Endoplasmic Reticulum A cytoplasmic organelle that moves materials in and out of cells, and can be rough (with attached ribosomes) or smooth (without attached ribosomes)
golgi apparatus organelles that package cellular materials and transports them withen a cell.
lysosomes containing enzymes that digest particals and desinagrates the cell after its death.
mitochondria A cell organelle that brakes down lipides and carbonhydrates and releases energy.
nuclear envelope A double membrane sorrounding the nucleus within a cell.
nucleous A rounded body within the nucleus in a cell.
nucleus controles all cellular activities.
organelle acts as a storage site, process energy, moves materials, or maufactior substances.
Plasma membrane (cell membrane) protective outerlayer or covering of all cells, made up of fat-like molecules.
plastid A stucture found in plant cells, some algae, and certain protozoians.
ribosome in the cytoplasm of living cells where protines are synthasized.
vacuole a membrane-bound cavity within a cell, often containing a watery liquid or secretion.
vesicle A small bladder-like cavity, expecially one filled with fluids.
