weathering
| Term | Definition |

| landforms | a natural structure on the earth's surface |
| weathering | the breaking down and weathering away of rock |
| erosion | the movement of weathered materials by wind water and ice |
| deposition | the process in which materials eroded by water, wind and ice are dropped in a new location |
| mass movement | a sudden downhill movement of rock or soil, such as a landslide |
| glacier | a large body of moving ice that stays frozen all year |
| magma | melted rock below the earth's surface |
| lava | melted rock that flows out of the ground onto the earth's surface |
| Volcano | a mountain built up by hardened lava, rocks and ash that have erupted out of the earth |
| earthquake | a shaking of the earth's crust caused by faults moving against each other deep below the earth's surface |
| continental drift | an early theory that described the movement of the contintents and was later replaced by the theory of plate techtonics |
| pangaea | a continent that existed millions of years ago that was made of all of today's separate continents joined together |
