| contour plowing | for hilly areas; plow the opposite way of the rain fall |
| terracing | step hills or mountains; make stair steps in the ground, plant on the flat part |
| no-till farming | don't plow ground after harvesting |
| cover crop | plant plants on topsoil when not harvesting crops |
| crop rotation | plant different crops each year |
| oxidation | a type of mechanical weathering; creates rust |
| landslide | when lots of land tumbles down a steep area |
| loam | another name for soil |
| cavern | a cave underground |
| flood plain | the place where floods often happen |
| delta | at the mouth of a river |
| alluvial fan | creates when a river flows from a mountain |
| sandbar | an area of sand blown away from the beach by water or wind |
