Describe carbohydrates according to the way we discussed them in the starch lab. Carbohydrates include starches and sugars. Starches include matzah, bread, and noodles.
What is the "magic" that happens in your mouth to starch? (matzah lab). When you put starch in your mouth it breaks down into sugar.
Use the analogy of a "choo choo train" to explain amino acids and proteins. The amino acids are the individual cars and the whole thing together is protein.
Describe the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats. Give examples of each please. Saturated is animal fat and unsaturated is plant fat.
Please design a dinner menu (3 items) and list the specific nutrients in your foods. Steak- protein, fat Rice- carbohydrates Salad- protein, vitamins, water
What is the path of food through the Alimentary Canal in order - starting with the mouth? Describe what happens at each organ. •Mouth- teeth chews the food up and enzymes breaks it down •Esophagus- moves the food down •Stomach- acids breaks the food down more •Small Intestines- villi absorbs nutrients into the blood •Large Intestines- absorbs the water •Anus- waste comes out
