Reproductive Sytem

Biology Test 2

QuestionAnswer
What are the three types of gametes in sexual reproduction? Primary Gamete (original diploid) Secondary Gamete (haploid) Mature Gamete (haploid after mitosis sperm or egg)
Male gametogenesis anatomy Testes filled with sperm producing semineferous tubules
Male gametogenesis cells [in semineferous tubules] Primary spermatocyte (becomes sperm) Leydig cells (outside tube)secrete testosterone Sertoli cells Nourish/protect sperm (majority of tubule)
List the series of events in male reproduction Hypothalamus-> GnRH-> Anterior pituitary-> FSH and LH FSH-> Sertoli cells LH-> Leydig cells ->spermatocyte->secondary spermatocyte Testosterone provides constant negative feedback
What are the two female reproductive cycles Ovarian cycle and Uterine Cycle
What are the stages of the Ovarian Cycle 1) 1-14 days follicle matures 2) 14 primary oocyte->secondary oocyte (ovulation) 3) 14-28 days follicle->corpus luteum
What is a follicle Primary oocyte and surrounding follicle cells that nourish it
What does the uteran cycle do? Endometrial lining grows (blood supply and glycogen stores increase) in preparation for fetus, and then is sloughed off
Hormonal control FSH and LH levels rise->1 oocyte maturation-> estrogen-> endometial growth-> FSH and LH decreased by negative feedback-> LH surge-> 2 oocyte (ovulation)-> corpus luteum -> progesterone ->keeps endometrial lining-> LH and FSH low-> corpus luteum det. at 26
What happens if egg is fertilized embryo secretes hCG hormone; maintains corpus luteum, progesterone stays, endometrium maintained during pregnancy
