| Term | Definition |

| Hypothesis | An explanation based on observed facts or an idea of how things work. |
| Scientific Method | A series of 5 or 6 steps that scientists follow to test ideas. |
| Evidence | Information and facts that help prove something. |
| Observation | Observable facts. |
| Inferences | Conclusion based on observations. |
| Ethics | The progress that applies issues of right and wrong to people and their actions. |
| Trade-off | Something given up in selecting one alternative over another. |
| Clinical Trial | A medical study that tests the safety and effectiveness of a drug or treatment in people |
| Control | Part of an experiment that is not being tested and is used for comparison.(receives placebo) |
| Sample Size | The number of subjects in an experiment. (larger the better) |
| Placebo | A substance which contains no medicine, but which the receiver thinks it's real. |
| Informed Consent | Agreement by a patient to participate in a experiment understanding the risks. |
| Placebo Effect | The response of a patients to a treatment even though it has no effective ingredients. |
| Variables | Things in a experiment that can be changed or vary. |
| Reproduce | Capable of being recreated or repeated. |
