Freezing Point The themperature at which liquid freezes
Specific Heat The heat required to riase the temperature of the unit mass of a given substance by a given amount
Intermolecular Forces forces that act between stable molecules or between stable molecules or between functional groups of macromolecules
Molecules a group of atmos bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compund that can take part in a chemical reaction
Cohesion The action or fact of forming a united whole
Adhesion the action or process of adhering to a surface or object
Evaporation The process by which a liquid changes into a gas
Density A property of matter representing the mass per unit of volume
Fresh Water Water that is not salty and has little or no taste, colour, or smell. Most lakes and rivers are made up of fresh water
Condensation Water vapor becoming a liquid
Percipitation Any type of liquid or solid water that falls to earth surface, such as rain, snow, or hail
Water Vapor Water in the form of gas
Surface Tension the tension of the surface filb of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the buld of the liquid, which tends to minimze surface area
Universal Solvent Water due to its polairty and ability to dissolve many different solutes.
Solute The component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.
Atom basic unit of life
Farenheit Of or denoting a scale of temperature on which water freezes at 32degrees and boils at 212degrees under standard conditions
Reflection projecting back na image through light without absorbing it
Ion an atom or group of atoms that has acquired an electric charge by gaining or losing one or more electrons
Cation an oion or group of ions that have a postive charge
Anion an ion or group of ions that have a negative charge
Electrolite a chemical compound that breaks into separate ions when it is dissolved or molten to produce an electrically conduction product
Conductivity Is the ability or power to conduct or transmit heat, electricity, or sound
Polarity A molecule with a net dipole as an result of the opposing changes.
Condtrolled Variable Quantities that a scientist wants to remain constant
Independent Variable are changed by scientist
Dependent Variable to see how it responds to the change made to the independant variable

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
