TermDefinition
Globe A spherical model of the Earth.
Map Shows the Earth or parts of it on a flat surface.
Meteorologist Studies the Earth's atmosphere; monitors, studies, and forecasts weather.
Geologist Studies the history and structure of the Earth as it is recorded in rocks.
Seismologist Studies and monitors earthquake activity.
Volcanologist Studies and monitors volcanic activity.
Eye the middle of a hurricane, where there is low pressure. It is always calm in there.
Vortex the middle of a tornado.
GOES a satellite that goes from east to west, that watches for weather.
POES a satellite that goes from west to east, that watches the weather.
Hurricane A storm similar to a tornado, that has an eye, and forms over the ocean.
Thunderstorms A storm that can rain, hail, thunder, or flash lighting.
Tornado A storm similar to a hurricane, that has a vortex, and forms over dry land from a thunderstorm.
Typhoon When a hurricane forms in the Western Pacific Ocean.
Funnel Cloud During a severe thunderstorm a rapidly rotating cloud can become visible as a funnel at the base of the thundercloud.
Cyclone When a hurricane forms over the Indian Ocean or off the coast of Australia.
Thermosphere Thermos- combined 2 layers: Exosphere and Ionosphere.
Exosphere Exit out of the Earth's atmosphere- satellite orbit. It is the outer most layer.
Ionosphere Electrically charged particles call Ions. Ions reflect radio waves.
Mesosphere Middle Layer- Meteors, meteor trails.
Troposphere Where we live. Also where weather occurs.
Stratosphere No clouds, very cold, ozone layer is here, jet stream found here.
