Photosynthisis defs

A2 bio definitions related to 1.1.3 photosynthisis

TermDefinition
Autotrophs Organisums that use light energy or chemical enery and inorganic molecules (CO2 and H2O) to sysnthasise complex organic molecules.
Heterotrophs Organisums that inge and digest complex organic molecules, releasing the chemical potential energy stored in them.
Nanaometer One thousanth of a micrometer or one milionth of a milimeter.
Photosynthetic pigments Molecules that absorb light enegy. Each pigment absorbs a range of wavelengths in the visible region and has its own distinct peak of absorbtion. Other wavelengths are reflected.
Photophosphorylation Making ATP form ADP and Pi in the presence of light.
Electron carriers Molecules that transfer electrons.
Electron acceptors Chemicals that accept electrons form another compound. They are reduced as they are oxydising agents.
Light indipendent stage The stage of photosynthesis where carbon dioxide is fixed and used to build complex organic molecules.
Liminting factor (For a metabolic process)the factor that is present at the lowest or least favorable value.
Photosynthometer Used to measure the rate of photosyntesis by collecting and measuring the volume of O2 produced in a certan time.
Cotyledons Seeds of dicotyledonous plants store food in cotyledons. These sometimes appear above the soil after germination and act as the first leaves, as in cress.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
