comets, meteors, asteroids

asteroid small rocky objects that are found between the planets Mars and Jupiter
asteroid belt where asteroids are located, between Mars and Jupiter
comets loose collections of ice, dust, and small rocky particles that orbit the sun
meteroid a chunk of rock or dust in space
meteors a streak of light caused by the burning upon a meteroriod in the atmosphere
meteorite a meteroid that has passed through the atmosphere and hit Earth's surface
constellations imaginary patterns of stars
Light Year the distance the light travels in a year
nebula a large cloud of gas and dust in space and the first stage of a star
white dwarf blue-white hot core of a star that is left behind after its outer layers have expanded and drifted out into space, also the fifth stage of a stars life
supernova the explosions of a dying, super giant star
black hole an object whose gravity is so strong that nothing can escape, also scientists are not sure if this actually exists.
binary stars a star system with two stars
eclipsing binary a binary star system in which one star sometimes blocks the light from the other
open clusters a star cluster that has a loose, disorganized appearance and contains only a few thousands stars
globular clusters a large, round, densely packed grouping of older stars
galaxy a huge group of single stars, stars systems, stars clusters, dust, and gas bound together by gravity
Elliptical Galaxy a galaxy shaped like a round or flattened ball, usually carrying old stars
