What is the arm? What you use to hold the microscope?
What is the coarse adjustment knob? a large, round knob on the side of the microscope
What does the the coarse adjustment knob move? it moves the stage up and down
What is the fine adjustment knob? small knob on the side of the microscope that fine tunes the focus on your specimen
What is the stage? The large flat area under the objectives where the microscope slide is placed
What are stage clips? they hold the microscope slide in place
What is the aperature? the hole in the stage that allows light to pass through the specimen
What is the diaphragm? it controls that amount of light going through the aperature
What is the light source? shines light on the specimen
What is the power of the scanning objective? 4x
What is the power of the low objective? 10 x
What is the power of the high objective? 40x
What is the total magnification of low power? 100x
What is the power of the eyepiece? 10x
How do you determine total magnification? multiple power of eyepiece by power of objective
What objective do you start with when you are trying to find your specimen? scanning
Which objective gives you the largest field of vision? scanning
What ojectives gives you the most detail but smallest field of vision? high
What adjustment knob do you use when you first try to find your specimen? coarse adjustment knob
Should the stage be at its highest or lowest level when you first try to locate your specimen? lowest level
How should you carry the microscope? one hand holding the arm and one hand under the base
What is the total magnification of scanning power? 40x
What is the total magnification of high power? 400x
