Lava Lava:magma que influye por la superficie terrestre.
Igneous rock Roca ignea: roca intrusiva o extrusiva formada a partir del enfriamiento y cristalización del magma o lava.
partial melting Fundicion parcial: proceso en el cual diferentes minerales se funden en el magma a diferentes temperaturas, cambiando su composición.
Bowen's reaction series Series de relación de Bowen:patrón de dos ramas, predecible y secuencial que siguen los minerales al cristalizarse a partir de magma que se enfría.
factional crystallization Cristalización fraccionaria: proceso en el cual diferentes minerales se cristalizan a diferentes temperaturas a partir del magma, eliminando elementos del magma.
intrusive rock roca intrusiva: roca ignea de grano grueso que se forma cuando la roca fundida se enfria lentamente y se solidifica en el interior de la corteza terrestre.
extrusive rock roca extrusiva: roca ignea de grano fino que se forma cuando la roca fundida se enfria rapidamente y se solidifica en la superficie terrestre.
basaltic rock roca basáltica: roca oscura con bajo contenido en sílice pero rica en hierro y magnesio; contiene principalmente plagioclasa y piroxenos.
granitic rock roca granitica: roca de color claro que tiene una alto contenido de silice y contiene cuarzo y potasio peldespato.
texture textura: tamano, forma y distribucion de los granos o cristales que forman una roca.
porphyritic textura profirica: textura rocosa caracterizada por cristales grandes bien formados, rodeados por cristales de grano mas fino del mismo material o de uno diferente.
vesicular texture textura vesicular: roca de aspecto esponjoso; lava cuyas burbujas de gas no se escapan.
pegmatite pegmatita: vetas de minerales de grano extremadamente grueso que pueden contener minerales raros como el litio y el berilio.
kimberlite kimberlita: roca ultramáfica poco común que puede contener diamantes y otros minerales que solo se forman bajo presiones muy altas.
