SM Landforms
| Term | Definition |

| Bay | a body of water partly surrounded by land but is connected to a larger body of water |
| Glacier | A huge, slow moving mass of ice |
| River Mouth | The point where a river enters a lake or stream |
| Volcano | An opening in Earth's Surface, through which ashes, molten rocks, and gases escape from the Earth |
| Mountain | An area of land that rises steeply above ground at least 2,000 feet. |
| Plain | A large area of flat, or gently rolling land |
| Basin | An area of land that is lower than its surroundings; some basins are filled with water |
| Island | An area of land completely surrounded by water |
| Plateau | A high flat topped land-form; At least one steep side |
| Butte | High Flat topped Area with cliff like sides |
| Isthmus | A narrow strip of land that connects two larger areas of land |
| Strait | A narrow stretch of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| River Source | Where a river originates or begins |
| Mesa | High flat topped land-form with cliff like sides; larger than a butte |
| Delta | A plain formed at the mouth of the river, triangular shaped, and where sediment is deposited |
| Archipelago | A cluster of Islands |
| Valley | A low stretch of land between mountains or hills; land drained by water erosion |
| Peninsula | An area of land surrounded by water but is connected to mainland (ex. Florida) |
| Tributary | A River or stream that flows into a larger river |
| Canyon | A deep narrow valley with steep sides; often with a stream |
| Hill | An area of land that rises Gently out of ground with a rounded peak |
