Cell Fundamental structural unit of all life
Bacteriophage A virus that infects and detroys a bacterial host
Cell membrane Outer shell of the cell - protects it from outside environment
Cell wall Cell membrane of a plant cell (more rigid than cell membrane)
Cytoplasm All contents of the cell, not including nucleus
Nucleus Organelle that contains DNA in the form of chromosomes
Organelles Membrane-bound stuctures partitioning cell into regions that carry out different functions
Mitosis Process of nuclear division
Fission Division of single-celled organisms that do not undergo mitosis
Lysosome Organelle that carries digestive enzymes
Protoplasm All contents of the cell, including nuleus
Chromosome Linear piece of DNA
Multicellular Any organism composed of more than one cell
Flagellum Hair-like structure attached to cell used for moving about
Asexual reproduction Type of reproduction that does not require male and female interaction
DNA Double-helix molecule holding the genetic information of a particular organism
Enzyme A protein used in chemical reactions
Protein A complex molecule found in many cellular structures - composed of amino acids
Capsid Shell (made of protein) of a free virus particle
Cytoskeleton System of molecules that gives organisms their shape
Endoplasmic reticulum a.k.a. ER - network of membranes which helps in protein synthesis and cellular organization
Filament Long chain of proteins (found in hair, muscle, flagellum, etc.)
Transduction Viral transfer of DNA to a new host
