Unit 2 vocab reveiw

TermDefinition
Lithosphere The rock solid portion of the earths surface.
Hydrosphere The waters compressing the earth's surface, including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and vapor in the atmosphere.
Atmosphere the layers of gasses immediately surrounding the earth.
Biosphere all the parts of the earth were plants and animals live including the Atmosphere, the lithosphere, and the hydrosphere.
Weathering physical and chemical processes that change the characteristics of rock or near the earths surface, occurring slowly over many years.
Precipitation Falling water droplets in the form of rain, sleet, snow or hail.
Tornado A powerful funnel-shaped column of spinning air.
Hurricane A storm that forms over warm, tropical ocean waters.
Monsoon A seasonal wind, especially in South Asia
Drought a long period without rain or with very minimal rainfall.
Climate the typical weather conditions at a particular location observed over time.
Polar of or pertaining to the North or South Pole.
Temperate moderate in respect to temperature; not subject to prolonged extremes of hot or cold weather.
