Ecosystems Review

overview key terms

TermDefinition
biotic factors living factor in an ecosystem (such as plants, animals, dead plants and animal remains)
abiotic factors Non living factor in an ecosystem, that never had life – (such as water, temperature, air, light, rocks and soil)
community A group of different organisms living together in an ecosystem
population The total number of organisms in an area
habitat A place where an organism lives
ecosystem A group of living and non-living things that co-exist and help each other survive
species A single type of organism that can mate and reproduce
biome A large geographic region that has similar abiotic factors (such as tundra, desert, rainforest)
