| Term | Definition |

| Geosphere | Solid part of the Earth that consists of all rock, soils, and loose rocks on Earth. |
| Crust | Earth's thin outer layer. |
| Mantle | Layer beneath the crust. Makes up 64 percent of the mass of the Earth. |
| Core | Earth's inner most layer. |
| Lithosphere | Is a cool, rigid layer that is 15 km to 300 km thick that includes the crust and uppermost part of the mantle. |
| Asthenosphere | Is a plastic, solid layer of the mantle made of rock that flows very slowly and allows tectonic plates to move on top of it. |
| Tectonic Plates | Plates glide across the underlying asthenosphere |
| Erosion | The removal and transport of surface material. |
| Atmosphere | Nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases are all parts of this mixture. Earth’s atmosphere changes constantly as these gases are added and removed. |
| Troposphere | Extends to 18 km above Earth’s surface. Almost all of the weather occurs in this layer |
