Gulf Stream a warm ocean current in the Atlantic Ocean
El Nino an unusual warming of surface water in the eastern Pacific Ocean near the equator
La Nina an unusual cooling of surface water in the eastern Pacific Ocean near the equator
land breeze the movement of air created by cool air over land moving toward the ocean
sea breeze the movement of air caused by cool air over the ocean moving toward the land
valley breeze the movement of air created by warm air rising and flowing up the slope of a mountain
mountain breeze the movement of air caused by cool air sinking and moving down the slope of the mountain
front a place where two different air masses meet
global winds winds throughout the globe
local winds winds in a specific area
occluded front the area in which a warm air mass is caught between two cold air masses; brings cool temperatures and plenty of rain and snow
stationary front a place where two air masses meet and stop moving
cold front a place where a cold air mass bumps up against a warm air mass
warm front a place where a warm air mass meets a colder air mass and slowly rises over it
air mass a large body of air with about the same temperature and humidity throughout
air pressure the weight of the atmosphere pressing at a certain place
humidity the amount of water vapor in the air
polar easterlies move east to west in the polar regions
westerlies winds that blow from the west
trade winds winds that blow east to west towards the equator; caused by hot air rising at the equator with cool air moving in
