Chapter 3/ The Geosphere

QuestionAnswer
Geosphere The solid part of the Earth that consist of all rock, as well as thes oils and loose rocks on Earth's surface.
Crust The Earht's thin outer layer.
Mantle The layer beneath the crust, makes up 64% of the mass of the Earth.
Core The Earth's innermost layer, composed of the densist elements, radius of appoximately 3400 km.
Lithosphere The Earth's outer layer,cool, rigid layer,15 km. to 300 km. includes crust and uppermos part of the mantle.
Asthenosphere The layer beneath the lithosphere, plastic,solid layer made of rock that flows very slowly and allows tectonic plates to move on top of it.
Tectonic Plates Glide across underlying asthenosphere in much the same way as a chunk of ice drifts across a pond.
Erosion The removal and transport of surface material.
