| landform | A part of Earth's surface that has a certain shape and is formed naturally. |
| core | Earth's deep innermost layer. |
| crust | The thin outermost layer of Earth. |
| Mantle | The middle layer of Earth. |
| mineral | A material that is found in nature and that ha never been alive. |
| Igneous rock | Forms when melted rock inside Earth cools and hardens. |
| Sedimentary rock | Forms when sediment, or sand and small bits of stone are cemented or glued together. |
| Metamorphic rock | Forms when other rocks are changed by heat and pressure. |
| earthquake | Is caused by a sudden movement of large sections of rock beneath Earth's surface. |
| fossil | The remains of a once-living plant or animal. |
| soil | The loose material that covers much of Earth's surface. Made up of bits or rock, minerals, and material that was part of once-living things. |
| weathering | The process breaking up or wearing away of rock. |
| erosion | The process of carrying weathered rock from one place to another. |
| humus | The decayed remains of plants and animals. |
