Science vocabulary

TermDefinition
Hypothesis an explanation based on observed facts or an idea of how things work
Ethics a person`s sense of right and wrong
Evidence information and facts that help prove something
Inference a logical conclusion based on observations
Observation information you get through your senses
Clinical trial research done on medicine to make sure it is safe and effective
Control Group a group in a clinical trial given fake medicine to compare the medicine
Placebo fake medicine given to a control group in a clinical trial
Sample size the number of people in a clinical trial
Informed Consent patients are informed of the risks and their permission is needed to use them in the clinical trial
Placebo effect people believe that they are getting a medicine but they are receiving a placebo but their health is still improving
Reproducible an experiment that produces similar results each time it is conducted
Variable something in an experiment that can change
Independent Variable the variable that is being tested
Dependent variable the variable in an experiment that is measured
Controlled variable the variable in an experiment that is kept the same
