TermDefinition
Mineral Naturally occurring, inorganic solid, with specific chemical composition and definite crystalline structure.
Crystal Is a solid in which the atoms are arranged in repeating patterns.
Luster They way that mineral reflects light from its surface.
Hardness Is a measure of how easily a mineral can be scratched.
Cleavage A mineral that splits relatively easily and evenly along one or more flat planes.
Fracture Minerals that break with rough or jagged edges.
Streak Is the color of a mineral when it is broken up and powdered.
Specific gravity The ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of an equal volume.
